Simplified Building Energy Model

An SBEM or Simplified Building Energy Model, is a Government Defined process in accordance with Building Control Regulations Part L. It is the calculation of the energy performance of new commercial, industrial and or retail buildings. As from 7th April 2007 all new buildings would require an SBEM Calculation.

There are 2 stages in acquiring an S.B.E.M Calculation. The first stage is named the "Design stage". Which must be completed and submitted to the Building Control Officer or Approved inspector at the same time as your building control application. The second stage is the "As Built" stage, this will come into force on completion of the build and a "Pass" certificate will have to be produced to your inspector.
